Two Engines, Two Engine Management Systems

The substantial loads that Suburban can carry demand substantial power. Suburban 1500 models answer with a 320 horsepower Vortec 5.3L V8. The 2500 features the 352 horsepower Vortec 6.0L V8. Fuel efficiency is enhanced by Active Fuel Management^® on the 5.3L engine that shuts down half the cylinders when power demands are low. Variable Valve Timing (VVT) is included on both engines, also helping to squeeze the most power out of every litre of gas. Both engines are mated with a six-speed automatic transmission that uses two overdrive gears to further enhance fuel efficiency.
